Woman,
Girl Wounded when Qassam Rockets Hit Sderot – Homicide Attack Foiled
in
Kfar Darom
A
woman and a young girl were treated for shock following a Palestinian
rocket attack on the southern town of Sderot Friday, HA’ARETZ reported.
Six Qassam rockets struck the Israeli town of 20,000 Friday morning,
causing much alarm but little damage.
The
rocket attacks, carried out by Hamas, have been seen as an increasing
threat and the West Bank factories in which they have been continuously
produced have been targets of Israel Defense Forces raids. In the
past 31 months, dozens of rockets have been launched at civilian
areas in the south.
In
other news, a suicide attack was foiled near Kfar Darom as a booby-trapped
car exploded 10 meters from an IDF vehicle, killing the attacker
but causing no other casualties. Military officials explained that
shortly before 7:30pm on Thursday a terrorist armed with a rifle
approached a Givati foot patrol near the northern outskirts of Kfar
Darom and opened fire. The soldiers returned fire and alerted a
nearby tank. As soon as the tank arrived, a car driven by another
terrorist suddenly came toward it and exploded about 10 meters from
the tank. No soldiers were injured but the explosion killed the
car’s driver. The original gunman escaped on foot and the IDF is
searching for him in Dir El-Balah. |
