Task Force Baghdad Continues to Rid Streets of Terror
BAGHDAD,
Iraq (TFB) – Task Force Baghdad Soldiers found roadside
bombs, captured terrorists and confiscated weapons in various
activities across Multi-National Division Baghdad’s area
of operations Friday.
While conducting
a patrol north of Baghdad, a unit received a tip from an Iraqi
who directed the Soldiers to a plastic bag on top of a barrier
which contained a 130-millimeter round. The informant also knew
who placed it and where he lives.
In Khadra,
in the northwest section of Baghdad, a patrol witnessed three
terrorists shooting at a military police patrol. Soldiers then
detained the terrorists and brought them in for questioning.
Also in Khadra
just a few minutes later, another Task Force Baghdad unit stopped
a suspicious vehicle. Soldiers found several AK-47s inside.
On six occasions,
possible IEDs were located before they detonated.
In Jaza’ir,
a central part of Baghdad, a cement block with wires running out
of it turned out to be a 125-millimeter mortar round located on
the side of the road.
A recent IED
crater that was filled in was found to contain another roadside
bomb.
Soldiers also
cleared roadside bombs from sections of the highway. Two cylinders
with wires attached were buried in the median.
On the same
highway, two 125-millimeter rounds with a radio attached were
also found in the median.
In the early-morning
hours, Soldiers found and detonated two 120-millimeter rounds
with wires on a road south of Baghdad.
