Jewish organizations
and leaders announced the kick off of Jewish Unity Live 2005,
a large-scale worldwide effort to promote Jewish unity at events
scheduled for March 1, 2005. Media Executive and leading Jewish
personality Mort Zuckerman joined Aaron Wolfson (New York),
Morris Kaplan (New Jersey), and David Krischer (Georgia) in
leadership positions for the event, which was officially launched
on Tuesday November 30 at 10:30 am at Zuckerman’s Manhattan
offices.
Jewish
Unity Live will be a Jewish event unlike any other, celebrating
the ongoing commitment to a shared Jewish heritage through Jewish
learning and exploration.
Jewish
Unity Live’s creators explain their vision of the event,
“March 1, 2005 marks the worldwide celebration of the
Torah, with events being held on the culmination of the seven
and a half year cycle of daily Talmud study. As not every Jew
studies or appreciates the Talmud, Jewish Unity Live was created
to enable every Jew around the world to participate in a celebration
of the pursuit of Jewish knowledge and the common bond we share,
the Torah.”
Event
coordinators are gearing up for a gala evening of entertainment
and inspiration, to be hosted by local leading Jewish personalities.
The New Jersey event, which will be held at the New Jersey Performing
Arts Center will attract some 3,000 people and will be attended
by Jewish celebrity Josh Malina, who will serve as the Master
of Ceremonies and international singing star Dudu Fisher. The
events will also include the premiere of a groundbreaking film
on the contemporary Jewish experience produced and directed
by veteran filmmaker Ricky Magder.
Event
organizers are promoting Jewish Unity Live as “one of
the most promising events to occur in recent years,” stressing
that “By becoming involved with Jewish Unity, Jews the
world over will demonstrate their commitment to a new Jewish
understanding ….by rediscovering that which has always
brought Jews together – the quest for knowledge.”
Major
events in North America are scheduled to be hosted in: New Jersey;
Los Angeles, California; Atlanta, Georgia; Baltimore, Maryland;
Houston, Texas; Long Island, New York; Milwaukee, Wisconsin;
Norfolk, Virginia; Seattle, Washington; Ottawa, Ontario; Montreal,
Quebec; Phoenix, Arizona; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Furthermore,
it has been confirmed that Jewish Unity Live events will be
held at various military bases of the U.S. Armed Forces around
the world, as well as on college campuses across the United
States.
